Each year, one out of every five homes has water damage to some degree. The majority of these water damages are a result of some type of plumbing failure. When water damage occurs, it is important that you locate a company that is well-trained and has the equipment to completely dry your home as quickly as possible.

Water damage is progressive and items that could be restored or dealt with within the first 48 hours of the water damage may not be restored if emergency response is delayed. Although you might be tempted to use a shop vacuum or call a company that only has equipment to dry carpet, you should consider that water will wick up walls and travel under base molding and sill plates. It will penetrate through floor coverings into sub-floors, even causing water damage in rooms below.

In addition, if humidity inside the structure is not controlled, items that were not damaged from the original water damage could be damaged as a result of absorbing moisture from the air. Structures that are not dried out quickly and properly can become a food source for mold growth.

Water leaks or spills are very common. Immediate inspection by certified technicians of floor coverings, structural materials and crawl spaces, as well as prompt removal of all standing water, is critical to reduce or eliminate costly structural damage and/or mold growth. Another term used in the insurance industry is that the homeowner is required to mitigate the damages. Many insurance companies have eliminated or drastically reduced their coverage for mold removal.

Since every minute counts, High Plains Carpet is ready to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No matter when a flood occurs, we will be there to bail you out.

After all standing water has been removed, the structure must be thoroughly dried to prevent moisture damage or mold growth. A trained professional will greatly reduce any potential problems because of their experience and knoll knowledge.

Homeowners sometimes remove standing water, and they neglect to have the area professionally dried because the surface looks or feels “dry to the touch.” Many only think the problem is the surface water. The walls, flooring, and crawl spaces also absorb the water and are often missed. It is critical to dry these areas correctly before further damages occur. Without the proper equipment, it is impossible to determine how much moisture is still within the structure or to draw that moisture out before it cultivates mold or causes other structural damage. Increased moisture in the air after an indoor flood can also cause “secondary” damage to decorative wood, books, artwork and other items, so thorough drying and dehumidification are critical.
